The Square Head (La Tête Carrée)
Inaugurated on the 29th of July 2002, in Nice, France, The Square Head is the first inhabited sculpture in the world. As part of the Louis Nucera Library, it gathers the administrative offices, being 28 m height and 14 wide. The designer Sacha Sosno, is a sculptor who had long been interested in architecture and in the way he could integrate his works in the center of the city. Besides Sosno the creation of the library complex was entrusted to Yves Bayard and Francis Chaput, the architects who had also designed the nearby Nice Theatre and The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. This was meant to guarantee the homogeneity of the site, The Promenade of Arts. With its original design, The Square Head soon became one of the city’s symbols.
