Play state statues

Some intriguing urban forms that have an amazing story. Six students from the Royal College of Art (design section) have envisioned and physically created a landscape of human state “furniture”. In the dim light of the early evening a group of PSP players (Play Station Portable) covered their heads with coats just for a better view of the screen. Even if visually isolated from their playmates they continued to interact with each other, cheerfully taunting along the game. So why not create some sheltered spaces where the player can isolate themselves from the outside rumble and enjoy the game. This is where designing came up. Players caught up in the game seem like statues. So the different postures adopted where transformed in computer-based polygonal designs. If you look carefully you can see players facing another player, sitting in a chair with elbows on knees, leaning against a wall or sitting on the floor. These strange apparitions are made of triangular elements of perforated steel fused together. They permit people to get in throughout their perforated backs and the PSP unit inside enable players to interact with other gamers within a radius of 100 m. The statues were the subject of an exhibition at the RCA Galleries.
