Mill house
Constructed as an addition to an old farm house, somewhere near Malmo, this building expresses the Swedish conception of a small vacation house, which must include a sauna. Using his conception that buildings should respect the surrounding nature, Gert Wingardh creates not only a house, but an entire scenario which makes our mind flow to the peaceful Japanese gardens. Some interesting wood braided panels guide you from the house, along the pool-lake, where, leaving their shadow on the water’s surface, they invite you to take an invigorating cold deep after the sauna. The interiors are also spectacular for the wood patterns used to create the upper level (the dormitory) the stairs, or the sauna itself and for the special window cuts which bring an interesting light. Everything is kept simple but manages to create a complex image of a beautiful design.
