Green highway

turbine freeway structure

Highways can actually be a source of green energy. This is a daring approach, coming from a student at the Arizona State University.

Wind turbines, installed above the highway, can use the kinetic energy caused by “non-green” machines (cars, trucks) to produce an average of 9,600KwH annually, each. This would be more than enough to power a few apartments. While this is only a student project and might encounter several feasibility problems, the idea still remains remarkable. If one day highway can actually become a source of endless alternative energy, investors and professionals should take this option into consideration.

m still not getting it..
how is d kinetic energy frm d machines being used???

well, every vehicle is running on the highway with approximately 70 mph, producing a stream of air. This produces the kinetic energy that can move the wind turbines, placed above the highway at the level of usual road signs.

u could power a few small communities along the highway , de gas stations, the video cameras, de check-points - and they would function also in the conventional way by wind in the vast cleared area surrounding the highway ( tornadoes , etc ) - what is interesting about it , is that it could be incorporated into the highway project (meaning u have the right to win and build the highway if u incorporate this wind-turbines in your project) , and into the metal structures that are already in place for the traffic-signs and camera enplacements. Yeah cool ideea !
