Domus no. 900, February 2007
Outsourcing means that certain internal functions of a company are delegated to an external company (who is being paid for this), based on a two-way information exchange, coordination and trust. Today’s architecture reflects this and other related changes. The flow of information and technical possibilities dissolves even the last geographical constraints imposed by the site. Forms are restricted only by the architect’s imagination. Case studies and an interview with Mike Davis try to expand the explanation of outsourcing and its influences in architecture.
In the projects section, is presented a multifunctional complex built on a former industrial site in the north-west Milan. The architect, Chino Zucchi tries to regain the shape and dignity of contemporary, middle class apartment-blocks. Its design offers an interesting closing of the façade towards the city, while a complex system of loggias opens towards the park. The architect tried to create a dynamic design, which would always give a new perspective of the building.
